Born in Thessaloniki, Vangelis Pavlidis had his first touches of the ball at Bebides 2000 FA, a famous football academy in the Greek city, where he played between 2004 and 2014. The young forward's qualities caught the attention of Bochum, the German club that signed him and integrated him into their U-17 team.
He also played four matches for the first team of Bochum before being loaned to Borussia Dortmund (where he was part of the B team for a year and a half, from the summer of 2017 to the end of 2018) and to Willem II.
Confident in the forward’s value, Willem II signed him permanently. His good performances led to his debut in the Greek national team: the first international call-up came on September 5, 2019. After two and a half productive seasons (33 goals in 82 games) at Willem II, he moved to AZ.
During his time at the Alkmaar club, between the 2021/22 and 2023/24 seasons, Pavlidis became a regular starter and scored 80 goals in 137 appearances, also contributing 25 assists. In the 2023/24 season, the forward scored 29 goals in the Eredivisie and became the top scorer of the competition, alongside Luuk de Jong (PSV).
