Benfica-Vizela

João Mário

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

Benfica beat Vizela by 2-1, in a game from matchday 5 of the Liga Bwin at Estádio da Luz. Goals from Neres and João Mário turned the scoreboard around and built the leader's fifth win in the Championship!

Gilberto and António Silva, in place of Bah and Morato, were the new additions to Benfica's eleven compared to the match against Paços de Ferreira, which maintained its characteristic tactical pattern (4x2x3x1).

At 20', the away goal occurred on the only shot on Benfica's goal in the first half and on the first attack of the minhotosOsmajic gained space on the left of the box and shot hard to the near post, beating Odysseas (0-1).

Neres was the real game-changer! Bah received the ball in the right corridor, ran up a few meters, and passed it to Neres. The Brazilian international drifted from the right to the middle, took an opponent out of the way and with his left foot, from outside the area, beat Buntic, establishing the equalizer (1-1). Great goal!

PENALTY KICK NOT AWARDED

The first moment of controversy and anger of the Benfiquistas was seen at 90'+1'. Gonçalo Ramos, who had seen a yellow card on 89', fell in the box, brought down by Anderson. Fábio Veríssimo considered it a simulation and showed the second yellow card to Gonçalo Ramos, sending him off. There was no VAR intervention and the penalty kick was not awarded.

Otamendi, at 90'+7', headed the ball away and, at 90'+9', Diego Rosa stopped Rafa's shot with his left arm. Fábio Veríssimo, this time, called a penalty kick.

João Mário, at 90'+12', converted the penalty, fooling Buntic (2-1). In the middle of the intense celebrations, the Portuguese international took off his jersey, saw his second yellow card and Benfica finished the match with nine players, 74% of possession, 25 shots against six of the opponent and 15 corners against four of Vizela.

Benfica, the sole leader of the Liga Bwin with five wins in five matches, plays again at Estádio da Luz on Tuesday, Setember 6, at 8 pm, against the Israelis of Maccabi Haifa, in a game from matchday 1 of the Champions League group H.
