Telma Monteiro, the Benfica judoka, won, this January 28th, the bronze medal in the -57 kg category at the Portugal Grand Prix, held in Almada.

The Portuguese judoka with the most medals ever beat France's Martha Fawaz in the fight for third place, after losing in the semi-finals to the Dutch Pleuni Cornelisse, in the golden score.

COP distinguishes Benfica athletes

Benfica athletes Telma Monteiro and Pedro Pichardo were honored by the Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP) on Thursday, November 14, at the 2024 Olympic Celebration, a gala held at SUD Hall Lisbon. Judoka Telma Monteiro was awarded the Prestige Award, which honors “sports agents for the excellence, notability and prestige of their careers”. Pedro Pichardo, triple jump athlete and Paris 2024 silver medalist, received the Sports Excellence Award, which is given to “Olympic medalists, World or European Champions”. Domingos Almeida Lima, Benfica's vice-president, represented the club at the ceremony.

Telma Monteiro: "I have the conviction that I can be in Paris"

Judoka Telma Monteiro was a guest on BTV'sprogram "Sport Lisboa e Modalidades", where she talked with journalist Luís Costa Branco. The Olympic athlete made a balance of 2022, in which she highlighted winning the bronze medal in the Champions League representing the Club as one of the highlights of the year. The Benfica athlete also reinforced her desire to try for a sixth Olympic Games appearance (which will take place in 2024), thus becoming the only judoka in history to do so. "I have the conviction that I can be in Paris. I want to accomplish this feat", she said.
