The midfielder from Under-19 team, David Tavares extended his contract with Benfica until 2023. The international for the Portuguese youth national teams arrived at the Club 2016/17 and became National Champion of the category last Saturday, May 19.

At the age of 19, David Tavares saw the excellent season playing for the team led by João Tralhão be rewarded, he scored three goals in 26 matches played in the National Championship. He played a match in the UEFA Youth League.

The midfielder arrived at Luz coming from Sporting, after having represented Loures and AC Tojal.

"It has been very good. Who plays with this crest to the chest must always leave everything on the pitch. Benfica is very big and you have to give everything for the club", said the young midfielder to BTV, after penning the new contract.

The midfielder bagged his first cap on February 5th, 2016, in a match from the U-17 against England (1-1). Since then he has been called up several times to represent the National teamsbeing present in the recent U-19 call-up, released by Hélio Sousa, for the Toulon Tournament. Benfica is the most represented emblem on that squad list, with five players.
