This large-scale project was only possible due to the immense contributions of fans and members, and the motivation of Joaquim Ferreira Bogalho, president of the Direction.
The old Cathedral was a place where history was made, where great sporting moments, pitch invasions or players’ farewells were witnessed. It was also a place where personal memories were made, for many fans a site of refuge and get-together, and a place where they could practice physical exercise in the Sports Complex.
As we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the opening of the old stadium, we remember the stories that many fans remember and that many others would have liked to have experienced: the growth of the stadium into one of the largest in the world.
