At the Estádio do Rio Ave FC, Kökcü, Pavlidis and Aktürkoğlu scored the goals for the Reds. Speaking to Sport TV, Álvaro Carreras acknowledged that the team started the game “very well” and then found the necessary solutions to respond to Rio Ave's “entry” into the game.
"In the end, we won - which is the important thing - the three points so that we can keep fighting up there," highlighted the left-back.
Asked about the discrepancy between chances created and goals scored, Álvaro Carreras said that this is an aspect that the Eagles will “continue to work on”.
"If all the shots we take went in, we'd win the games 20-0, but we'll keep working. This will continue, we still have a long way to go, and the important thing is the three points", he stressed.
With his sights set on the national championship and the Portuguese Cup, the No. 3 emphasized that Benfica is focused on itself.
"We know it's going to depend on us, on working hard, and in the end the reward will come. Match by match, we'll continue to get the three points, that's our goal," he said.
Álvaro Carreras' display earned him the Man of the Match award. The full-back recorded an 86% pass efficiency, resulting from 51 successful attempts out of 59. He also won 5 of the 10 duels he contested - 4/8 on the ground; 1/2 aerial -, performed 92 actions with the ball and was the protagonist of 3 tackles. The data comes from the Sofascore platform.
"I've been doing my job since I got here, and I'm grateful for the opportunity. I'll continue to work as part of a team, and I'll help in any way I can," he reacted.
A break for national team commitments follows. Benfica will be back in action on Friday, March 28, at Gil Vicente's home for the game in hand of matchday 24 of the Liga Betclic..
