Benfica Museum – Cosme Damião

1 MILLION VISITORS

This Tuesday, January 14, the Benfica Museum– Cosme Damião reached another historic milestone, with the entry of 1 million visitors. Since its inauguration on July 26, 2013, and its opening to the public on July 29 of the same year, the space has established itself as one of Lisbon's main tourist and cultural attractions, celebrating the history of Sport Lisboa e Benfica and the memory of one of the world's greatest sporting institutions.

In the Museum's 11 years of existence, the 2023/24 season was particularly important, with more than 160,000 visitors - the highest number ever! - and more than 400 guided tours for different audiences (schools, families, groups, different nationalities), and more than 40 program activities aimed at different age groups and interests.

The Benfica Museum - Cosme Damião stands out for its constant renovation and updating, which provides a dynamic and interactive experience for visitors. All this has contributed to a revisit rate higher than that of most museums in the city, which also demonstrates how attractive and engaging the space has become for the public.

A space that brings together more than a thousand objects, of the 37,000 that make up Sport Lisboa e Benfica's collection of cultural items, organized in 4000 m2 of exhibition area, divided into 29 thematic areas, with the constant concern that the contents of the exhibition are updated regularly, following the evolution of all the Club's sports.

In addition, the Museum's cultural offer is not limited to a common experience, but also offers accessibility to different groups, with programs aimed at visually and hearing impaired visitors, confirming and reinforcing its commitment to inclusion.

The Benfica Museum's educational project is another highlight. Each season, around 12,000 students have the opportunity to explore the space, taking part in educational activities that link the history of the Club to relevant educational themes for all ages. The guided tours, adapted to different public profiles, guarantee a rich and personalized experience.

In order for the Benfica Museum - Cosme Damião to provide a service of excellence every day, various areas of Cultural Heritage collaborate with each other, namely the Mediation and Education Service, the Documentation and Information Center, the Reserves, Conservation and Restoration Department, Curatorship and Production.

Reaching the milestone of 1 million visitors reinforces the role of the Benfica Museum - Cosme Damião as an innovative and accessible cultural space, always seeking to provide new experiences and enhance its history, but also to welcome all audiences. A museum of everyone, for everyone.
