It was 60 years ago: memories of a historic Benfica-Real Madrid

Benfica's professional football team held another training session on Saturday, April 26, at the Benfica Campus, with a view to the match against AVS, scheduled for Sunday, April 27, at the Estádio da Luz. The match from round 31 of the Liga Betclic is scheduled for 6 pm.

This Tuesday, February 25, marks 11 years since the death of one of the most iconic captains in the history of Sport Lisboa e Benfica. On a day marked by immense longing, we remember Mário Coluna, the eternal leader who became a two-time European champion with an eagle on his chest, an emblem for which he also won 10 National Championships and 6 Portuguese Cups. A Sacred Monster... Unforgettable, Mr. Coluna!

Little Genius to many, simply Chalana to others, one of the most remarkable and iconic football players in the centenary history of Sport Lisboa e Benfica. This Monday, February 10, marks the 66th anniversary of the birth of Fernando Chalana, who wore the Manto Sagrado for 13 seasons (1974/75 to 1983/84 and 1987/88 to 1989/90) and left us on August 10, 2022. Forever in our hearts!

This Wednesday marks the 77th anniversary of the birth of Sven-Göran Eriksson, one of the mythical coaches of Sport Lisboa e Benfica's centenary history.  An outstanding professional, he managed the Glorioso for five seasons (1982/83 and 1983/84, and 1989/90 to 1991/92) and revolutionized Portuguese football - leaving a legacy of innovation and titles. This February 5 is a day marked by eternal nostalgia for the man who passed away on August, 26, 2024.

On the day of SL Benfica's 121st anniversary, Friday, February 28, the Estádio da Luz and the Benfica Museum – Cosme Damião opened their doors once again for night visits. For the 3rd month running, Stadium & Museum By Night sold out with 750 people attending. Participants were surprised by the Cathedral's nocturnal illuminations and were presented with the Club's birthday cake. At the Museum, they were able to walk through the corridors of Benfica's glorious history, and it is worth noting that the writer André Pereira was present and offered some visitors portraits written in the form of poems. Another special Benfica evening, in communion between the Club's fans!
