Bah with President Rui Costa

INTERVIEW

Sport Lisboa e Benfica and right-back Bah – who was tied to the club until 2027 - have agreed to renew his contract for another two seasons. The new contract runs until 2029.

"I HAVE A GREAT LOVE FOR BENFICA"

"I feel very happy, I have a great love for Benfica, my club. Two more years is perfect for me," said Bah, moments after extending his contract with the club until 2029.

Looking back on his time with the eagle on his chest, the Danish international recalled the trophies he won and once again emphasized the joy and pride he feels in wearing the Manto Sagrado: “We've had some great times here, we've won two titles... I really enjoy playing for Benfica!

Going through a particularly happy period in his personal life - with the birth of a daughter - and also professionally at Benfica, Bah is a grateful, fulfilled man and makes a point of saying so.

"I feel very happy, my baby [is also] going to be a Benfiquista... Portugal is my home, and I'm having a very happy time," said the defender, speaking to BTV.

As for the club's goals for 2024/25, Bah was adamant: “We want to be champions!”

Playing for Sport Lisboa e Benfica since June 2022, Alexander Bah wore the Manto Sagrado in 92 official matches for the Glorioso until Tuesday, December 17, when he extended his association with the club.

In his first season with the eagle on his chest (2022/23), the Danish international played 42 games: 28 in the league, 8 in the Champions League, 2 in the Champions League qualifying round, 3 in the Portuguese Cup and 1 in the League Cup. His first Benfica minutes on the pitch came on August 5, 2022 - he came on during the 2nd half of the match against Arouca at the Estádio da Luz and made his first assist. Later that month, on the 30th, he made his debut as a starter and played his first full game - it was in the Cathedral, against Paços de Ferreira, in the Championship.

At the end of his debut year for the Reds, in which he was directly involved in 7 goals, he celebrated winning the club's 38th National Football Championship.

The 2023/24 season, which began with Benfica's triumph in the Cândido de Oliveira Super Cup, saw Bah once again in action on the team's right flank. The eagles' No. 6 made 32 appearances in matches on various competitive fronts: League (19), Champions League (3), Europa League (6), Portuguese Cup (3) and Cândido de Oliveira Super Cup (1). The right-back also scored 2 goals and made 4 assists.

Almost 1500 minutes (excluding added time) is the amount of time Bah has already played in the current season (2024/25). The Danish international has played in 18 matches so far: 11 in the league, 5 in the Champions League, 1 in the Portuguese Cup and 1 in the League Cup. He has scored 1 goal and 2 assists for Benfica.
