Winners of the Liga BPI, the Portuguese Cup, the League Cup and the Super Cup, the women's football team of Benfica was recognized not only for the domestic success, but also for the historic campaign in the UEFA Women's Champions League, where the Eagles reached the quarter-finals.
At the beginning of his speech, the President of Sport Lisboa e Benfica thanked Liga Portugal for the tribute paid to Sven-Göran Eriksson, reinforcing the statements he made on his arrival at the event, and then spoke about a project that the Club has embraced with great enthusiasm.
“I'm grateful for this recognition for Benfica women's football. It's a project we've embraced with great enthusiasm. We made history last year, winning four national titles and reaching the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women's Champions League. It's a project to continue, in a sustained way, hoping that we can contribute to the growth of the sport in Portugal. We've been working on it and we challenge all the clubs to invest heavily in women's football, so that we can become a huge power in this sport”, said Rui Costa.
