The Benfica athlete came 2nd in the final of the triple jump at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with a leap of 17.84 meters.

Pedro Pichardo
On his first attempt, the Sport Lisboa e Benfica athlete reached a mark of 17.79 meters, which gave him the lead in the competition until he was beaten by the jump of Spain's Jordan Díaz, who reached 17.86 meters.
Pedro Pichardo improved his mark on the 2nd attempt, to 17.84 meters, but remained in 2nd place behind the Spanish athlete. On his 3rd attempt, the Benfica athlete took a chance, but stepped on the board and had a null jump.
With four of the 12 candidates already eliminated, the competition moved on to the 4th attempt and Pedro Pichardo jumped 17.52 meters, subsequently foregoing the 5th jump to give his all for the gold medal in the final attempt.
Message from the President
On his final attempt (6th), the Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion reached 17.81 meters, but he was unable to improve on the 17.84 meters recorded on his 2nd jump and the Silver medal was confirmed, just 2 centimeters away from the Gold won by Spain's Jordan Díaz.
Before the podium ceremony, Pedro Pichardo regretted a mistake in the event that prevented him from improving the mark he set in the 2nd attempt. "I'm happy. Obviously, I wanted to win, but today wasn't the day. I leave here feeling good. I think the competition was good, and next time it will be better. Unfortunately, I made a mistake in the race and I wasn't hitting the board well. I offered 20 centimetres and lost by 2. Now I'm going to hold my head high and keep working," he told RTP.
