Roger Schmidt: 100 official games at the helm

An away win in Rio Maior against Casa Pia (0-1), on Sunday, March 17, on matchday 26 of the Liga Betclic, was the result of Roger Schmidt's 100th game at the helm of Benfica. Since his presentation on May 24, 2022, the coach has played a hundred official matches with an eagle on his chest, with a 73% win rate and an 87% unbeaten record.

The promise to give his "best" and the iconic certainty he left on the day he presented himself to the Glorioso members – "I love football, and those who love football love Benfica" – gained expression in the results he achieved in the first hundred official matches he played.

The 100 games were divided between six different competitions, namely 60 in the National Championship (48 wins and seven draws, with 142 goals scored and 41 conceded), 20 in the Champions League (11 wins and four draws, with 45 goals scored and 26 conceded), nine in the Portuguese Cup, six in the League Cup, four in the Europa League and one in the Super Cup.

Of the 100 matches, 55 were played during the 2022/23 season and 45 have already taken place in the current season (2023/24).

Focusing on the results, Roger Schmidt achieved a 73% win rate and a 14% draw rate, while also boasting a remarkable goal tally, with an average of 2.24 per game, as a result of the 224 goals scored, and 0.83 conceded per game.

These figures have also translated into winning a National Championship and a Super Cup.

During these 100 games under Roger Schmidt's leadership, the eagles have scored five or more goals in eight matches, most notably the 1-6 win in Israel against Maccabi Haifa on matchday 6 of the 2022/23 Champions League group stage, a result that earned them 1st place in a group that also included Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.
