"It's an individual distinction, but it represents a lot of the team's work"

Winner of the Vítor Oliveira - Liga SABSEG Coach of the Month award for January, Nélson Veríssimo received the award at the Benfica Campus.

The Benfica B coach beat Jorge Costa, from AVS (14.07%), and Leandro Pires, from Santa Clara (12.59%), with the votes of their counterparts, who took into account the four matches in the period in question, specifically against Belenenses (W 2-1), FC Porto B (W 0-3), Mafra (W 1-2) and União de Leiria (D 0-1), with a balance of seven goals scored and three conceded.

"It means a lot because it's awarded by all the coaches in the II Liga. It's an individual distinction, but it represents a lot of the team's work. I congratulated the players, because above all the credit goes to them, but we mustn't forget all the staff who work with the B team," Nélson Veríssimo told BTV.

For the Reds coach, all the daily work carried out at the Benfica Campus was rewarded, and it was therefore a fair "tribute to all the people involved in the B team's journey".

Despite the momentum experienced in the first month of the year, Nélson Veríssimo recognizes that Benfica B must look to the future. "We're in a competitive league this season. We've been able to give a very positive response. As our President says, there are no credits at Benfica, everything we've done is already in the museum," he stressed.

With the aim of the team being "constantly evolving", at the end of the competition we have to look to the future. "We have to go out onto the pitch to win every game and reach the end of the journey with the feeling that the team has grown and evolved, but with the idea that there's more to do. That's how the road is built," he concluded.
