Benfica's women's team
The Eagles join Ajax (Netherlands), Bayern Munich (Germany) and Manchester United (England) in revealing the first half of the 8-team line-up for this pioneering global event.
Representing the host country, Benfica will take part in this new 7-a-side format, a competition that will take place over 3 days, culminating in the final on May 23rd.
Recently crowned five-time national champions, the Glorioso women's football team currently occupies 12th place in the UEFA rankings.
"As a club that has been a real driving force behind women's football in Portugal, we are proud to be part of this historic competition and to welcome these incredible athletes and fans to our country," said Fernando Tavares, vice-president of SL Benfica.
"World Sevens Football offers our players a unique opportunity to compete at the highest level, while at the same time being rewarded for their talent and dedication - an important step in the growth of women's football, and we're delighted to be a part of it," added the Eagles' vice-president.
Adrian Jacob, W7F Director of Football, added: "World Sevens Football aims to create opportunities that reflect the enormous value and talent of female players. We're thrilled to welcome these extraordinary teams to Estoril at the start of a new era for women's football, and we'll be revealing the remaining clubs soon."
Kika Nazareth, a talent from the Benfica academy who currently represents Barcelona, will attend the event as an official ambassador for World Sevens Football.
