On Sunday, September 25, Sport Lisboa e Benfica won the bronze medal in the European Champion Clubs Cup in cross-country, taking 3rd place on the podium in the prestigious event held in the Algarve.

In a competition that was part of the Crosse das Amendoeiras em Flor, in Albufeira, Edward Zakayo (4th place, 27m31s), Etson Barros (11th place, 28m25s) and Samuel Barata (15th place, 28m35s) scored for Benfica, who, with 30 points, came 3rd, behind the French De Athle, with 21 points, and the Spanish Playas de Castellón, the winners, with 16 points. André Pereira was 17th, crossing the finish line in 28m41s.

Individually, Spain's Thierry Ndikumwenayo (Playas de Castellón) was the winner, ahead of Uganda's Oscar Chelimo (Atletica Noceto) and Rodrigue Kwizera (Playas de Castellón), from Burundi.

After 4th place last season, SL Benfica climbed to 3rd place on the podium this Sunday, winning the second medal of the day for Portugal in Albufeira, after SC Braga's silver in the women's race.
