Guedes: "We have a great team and a great coach"

Gonçalo Guedes and Bah were at the Benfica Official Store Stadium on Wednesday, October 18, for an autograph session with the fans. 

Gonçalo Guedes put their feelings into words. "It's always great to meet the fans, I've been on the other side. It's something I'm very proud of doing. It's very important for us to connect with the fans and be at ease with them, and they with us. It's a great joy to see the affection the fans have for us, and we do everything we can to give them great joy on the pitch," revealed Guedes, speaking to the press.

The atmosphere and spirit within the team is also spectacular, as the forward was keen to point out.

"The mood is spectacular, the team is doing very well, they've trained very well over the last few days and now we're welcoming the national team players. We're all very happy. We know that in the Champions League we didn't do so well, but in the league we've won seven in a row, and that's very important. The mood is great, our team is very good, very strong, and so is the coach. It's all about building on our strengths and continuing to do a great job," he said.

The teams' competitive break for national team commitments was used to work hard.

"We know we don't have all the players available, but we're trying to do our best. We know we have the help of the B team, which is also very important for us. We try to keep the pace as high as possible so that there are no breaks", he stressed.

Gonçalo Guedes, who returned to competitiomn in the win (0-1) over Estoril, in the last round (8) of the Liga Betclic, claims to be "ready for any opportunity". "I was injured for a long time, I went through a difficult phase, but that's in the past. I hope to get back to my level, which I'm well aware of, and to be able to help my team", he praised.

The focus is on Benfica and what they can do on the pitch, said the No. 17 about the team's collective ambitions in the league.

"We're not thinking about the other teams, we're thinking about ourselves, that we have to do our job in the best possible way. If we do that, we have every chance of finishing in the position we want, which is 1st place. We know it's going to be difficult, because the other teams also have their strengths, but we have to be at a high level and that's what we're going to do", he said.

As for the future, he left one certainty, recalling what he always wanted in the last off-season. "I had this idea [of staying at Benfica] and spoke to those in charge saying it was possible. The negotiations went very well, and I was very happy. For me, playing for Benfica is like being at home, I've spent my life here and, if I can, I hope to stay longer," he concluded.
