HIGHLIGHTS

Benfica left the three points at Inter Milan (1-0), in Matchday 2 of the Champions League Group D. After a mature and consistent first half, with good goal chances and a clear penalty not given to Neres, the reds saw Thuram score the opener, at 64'. The next shot in Europe is scheduled for October 24, at home against Real Sociedad.

In his debut with the red jersey, Juan Bernat joined Trubin, Bah, Otamendi, Morato, João Neves, Kökcü, Di María, Aursnes, Rafa and Neres in the starting XI released by Roger Schmidt at the San Siro Stadium.

With a high pace, the eagles were pushing Inter when, at 30', the referee did not give a clear penalty to the Portuguese National Champion. Assisted by Rafa, Neres entered the box in speed and was touched by Barella on the right leg. The referee said nothing and the VAR did not intervene. Benfica left Milan, one more time, with causes for complaint, after the penalty not given to Aursnes in last season's (3-3) draw of the 2nd leg of the quarter-finals.

Inter-Benfica

In the second half, Inter came up with a proactive stance, went up the lines and conditioned the output of Benfica, who were forced to retreat to its box.

Inter-Benfica

Galvanized by the succession of opportunities created, Inter scored the only goal at 62'. Dumfries fled from the right and crossed to Thuram, who put the ball into the back of Trubin's nets (1-0). The play was still reviewed by VAR for alleged irregular position of the Dutch right-back, but he was in line with the last defender of Benfica and the goal was validated.

Trubin

The reds will play again on Saturday, October 7, against Estoril. The clash from Matchday 8 of the the Liga Betclic will take place at Estádio António Coimbra da Mota, starting at 8:30 pm.
