STATEMENTS TO BTV

Goalkeeper Trubin, 22, is a new addition to Sport Lisboa e Benfica's professional football team. The Ukrainian international arrives at the Club coming from Shakhtar Donetsk and signed a contract valid for five seasons, until 2028.

In his first statements with an eagle on his chest, Trubin explained that the club's greatness was decisive for signing. "In my opinion, Benfica is one of the best clubs in Europe. That's why I'm here. I'm really happy to be here," he told BTV.

"They are all good goalkeepers. We're at a great club. For me, it's an opportunity to show myself, to develop on a daily basis, to add to the Club, and whoever is best will play", analyzed, the goalkeeper who already knows some "simple" words in the Portuguese language, taking into account that he was coached by Paulo Fonseca and Luís Castro.

THE CAREER OF THE NEW GOALKEEPER OF THE GLORIOSO

Trubin took his first steps in football at Azovstal-2 Mariupol and, in 2014, joined Shakhtar Donetsk's academy. Shortly after making the jump to one of the giants of Ukrainian football, the young goalkeeper, then 13, was forced to move to Kyiv in the wake of the armed conflict in the Donbass between Ukrainian troops and Russian-backed separatists.

Far from Donetsk, a city where he never had the opportunity to play due to the conflict that still rages today on Ukrainian soil, Trubin was noticed in Shakhtar's youth teams and, in 2018/19, Paulo Fonseca, the then coach of the miners, decided to give an opportunity to the goalkeeper who had defended the club's goal in the UEFA Youth League campaign. At just 17, Trubin made his Shakhtar first-team debut on May 26, 2019, in a 4-0 win over Mariupol at their loaned home in Kharkiv.

In the following season (2019/20), under Luís Castro, the goalkeeper was used in seven games and gained experience for his breakthrough year. Having replaced the historic Pyatov, Trubin was chosen as the Ukrainian champion's first-choice goalkeeper for 2020/21 and made a full debut in the Champions League: he was part of the team that clinched a historic victory against Real Madrid (2-3), at the Alfredo Di Stéfano Stadium, home of the merengues during the renovation works of the Santiago Bernabéu.

Trubin

In 2020/21, newcomer Roberto De Zerbi opted to alternate Trubin and Pyatov in goal and, despite only appearing in 18 games, the now Benfica new signing won the first of two Best Goalkeeper awards in the Ukrainian championship. The second was last season (2022/2023), where the player played 38 games with the status of starter for coach Igor Jovicevic, in a championship marked by several restrictions motivated by the invasion of Russia to Ukraine. That same season, the keeper won the last of the three Ukrainian championship titles he has on his CV.

Last summer, Trubin represented Ukraine's Under-21s at the UEFA European Championship and was one of the stars of an excellent campaign that only ended in the semi-finals. The goalkeeper was one of the "reinforcements" available to coach Ruslan Rotan from the senior national team, for whom he has already made seven international appearances. The first of those caps was handed by Andriy Shevchenko, who did not hesitate to give the 19-year-old player his first start in the 2022 World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan.
