President Rui Costa's words at the Marquês de Pombal

Wearing the champion's jersey, he confessed that if he weren't the President of Sport Lisboa e Benfica he would be among the thousands of supporters present at the Marquês de Pombal, Rui Costa thanked the support of the Benfiquistas on the road to the 38th league title, stressing that this was the "title of unity". "We are National Champions, no more asking for the 38! He is already here! I must thank all of you [supporters], all of you who believed that we would get to Marquês! We are here! It's a title of unity, which is of our pride and of Benfica", he emphasized, and then gave the motto by singing "Eu amo o Benfica, eu amo o Benfica" [I love Benfica, I love Benfica].

The celebration of the 38th league title at the Marquês de Pombal

The party from Estádio da Luz moved to Marquês de Pombal. The interval between the final whistle of the Benfica-Santa Clara (3-0), on Saturday, May 27, and the arrival of the players on the stage set up in Lisbon's main square was still long. When the bus carrying the Benfica team arrived, the Marquês de Pombal was already overflowing with Benfiquistas. At the epicenter of the red party, many thousands of fans celebrated in great style with the new national champions.
