Sport Lisboa e Benfica and coach Roger Schmidt have extended their contractual link until June 30, 2026.

"It is a great honor to be part of Benfica. To be honest, at first I didn't expect to sign a new contract so soon, but I do so with 100% conviction. I feel that I am in the right place, and I am very pleased that Benfica believes in me, especially President Rui Costa and Lourenço Coelho, and the entire Board. I am very happy at Benfica, we have a great team and the fans are fantastic. We hope to continue playing good football, we are going after titles, and this is a great motivation for me. It was a clear decision for me to stay longer in Benfica", revealed the coach after signing the new contract.

Roger Schmidt recalled that President Rui Costa's conviction in moving towards his signing was a determining factor from the moment he was signed, stating that he felt he was in the "right place".

"My expectations, from the beginning, were very high, because, as I said, for me Benfica is a very special club in European football. The conviction of our President in signing me for Benfica gave me the confidence to come and feel I was in the right place", he praised in statements to the Club's media.

For the coming seasons, Roger Schmidt has made it clear what purposes guide him.

"It's always the same, the main mission is to make the fans happy. This happens when we play good football and win titles. We are Benfica, we have to play to win titles, that's our goal, so the fans can celebrate. We will do our best to do that in this first season, but also in the following years, we want to win", he claimed.

To the Benfiquistas he addressed words of gratitude for the "great motivation" they pass on to the team.

"I want to thank you for the unbelievable way you support us. It is always very special to play in our stadium, but also away from home, we feel their passion and support immensely. It's a great motivation for us and the reason we play at this level. The players always try to give their all to show Benfiquistas that we give everything on the pitch to win games and win titles. We try to make them happy", finished Roger Schmidt.
