Benfica celebrations
Before the start of the match, an emotional moment at Estádio da Luz. Tribute from Sport Lisboa e Benfica to André Almeida, a footballer who was linked to the Club since 2011 and who, recently, terminated his contract. In total, he played 308 matches with an eagle on his chest, scored 11 goals and won 15 titles - 5 National Championships, 2 Portuguese Cups, 4 Super Cups and 4 League Cups.
TRIBUTE TO ANDRÉ ALMEIDA
Teams on the pitch and everything ready for the starting whistle. Note that Benfica repeated the starting eleven that played in Arouca; Casa Pia made one change compared to the one they presented against Santa Clara: Kunimoto came off, Romário Baró came on.
At 35, Grimaldo passed to Neres, who made a cross and João Mário opened the scoring. 1-0 at Estádio da Luz.
Key moments
Just before the break, the 2-0. Benfica's good attacking play, the ball, passed by Chiquinho, reached Grimaldo, who crossed to the left and João Mário, at the far post, put the ball in the back of the net. A second consecutive brace from the Portuguese international, the third match scoring, he is in the best season of his career, with 12 goals in the Liga Bwin and 16 in all competitions. The eagles closed the first 45 minutes of the game with 77% possession, seven shots, 406 passes (89% effectiveness) and 94 attacks.
With Casa Pia in Benfica's box, the eagles took the opportunity to go on a counterattack. João Mário to Bah and the full-back, from area to area, ran about 50 meters and sent a left-footed rocket that only stopped in the back of the net. It was 3-0 in the match, at 71'.
The game from matchday 19 of the Liga Bwin between Benfica and Casa Pia ended in a 3-0 victory from the Reds. Thus, Benfica remains the sole leader, with 53 points, and now turns its attention to the Portuguese Cup and the visit to the SC Braga home ground, on February 9 (Thursday), at 8:30 pm.
