Roger Schmidt: "It was a good start, every win gives confidence"

Roger Schmidt made the analysis of the Benfica-Arouca match of gameweek of the Liga Bwin, a match held this Friday, August 5, at Estádio da Luz. A 4-0 victory that left the coach satisfied. 

MATCH ANALYSIS

"It was a good display and it is always important to win the first match, especially at home. We played a good game, we started well, with a lot of quality at the beginning. We practically decided the match in the first 45 minutes. The red card ended up making things even more difficult for the opponent. Of course it wasn't all perfect, I didn't expect it to be at this point of the season either. It was a good start. Every win gives confidence, so we are happy."

TEAM GROWTH

"It is always important to score goals. We created several chances and it's also important not to give our opponent many chances. I don't think they had any dangerous moments today.  This is a great sign for the whole team, not only for the defenders. The whole team works to regain ball possession, tries to prevent counterattacks from the opponent. I am very happy with the players' attitude. They are always showing a great team performance. It was a good start, on Tuesday and today [this Friday]. As I said, we gain confidence with the way we play and with the victories, especially in our stadium. It's important to convince the fans with good displays. They always support us. I'm happy." 

JOÃO MÁRIO'S INJURY

"He had a bruise on his upper leg. It was very painful at the moment, but I don't think it's a very serious injury. I don't know if he will be fit for Tuesday, we will have to wait and see in the next few days."

"TALENTED" ENZO "IS IN THE RIGHT PLACE"

"We knew that he was a great player, very talented, that he had to take the next step in Europe... He is a very brave player, always asking for the ball, even in difficult situations. When under pressure, he can make good decisions. He is 21 years old and I think he is in the right place. We are very happy that he is with us. The beginning was good for him to gain confidence."

THE FANS AND THE "UNBELIEVABLE" ATMOSPHERE IN THE STADIUM

"I feel the support of the fans, the atmosphere in the stadium is unbelievable. I am very excited. When we come to the stadium, the fans are always our 12th man. We have to use this advantage in our Stadium and, as I've been told, in away matches they also follow us. It's an important weapon for us this season."
