Paulo Bernardo renews contract until 2027

Paulo Bernardo, the Sport Lisboa e Benfica midfielder, aged 20 (24.01.2002), extended his link to Club until 2027. He started playing with an eagle on his chest in the Soccer Schools, he worked his way up through all the youth levels to the first team, in which he debuted on November 2, 2021, in the Champions League, against FC Bayern.

Before making his debut with the first team, he shone at Benfica Campus and in the youth ranks, became U-17 National Champion (2018/19) and U-15 National Champion (2016/17), and he was promoted to the B team, whose debut took place on February 2, 2020, in a triumph - 4-0 - against Vilafranquense.

In the current season - 2021/22 - he has shown his credentials in the Club's first team, where he has already played 16 matches (more than 600 minutes) and made one assist.

"I am very happy. It means that Benfica continues to bet on me, not only now but for the future. I couldn't be prouder of my path here, in my home of a lifetime", he said to BTV. 

He plays as a center midfielder, a position occupied by Rui Costa on pitch for many years, and, despite some similarities, he pointed out that they are "different players.   

"President Rui Costa was a great player, everyone knows that. I can relate to his style of play. I know we are different players, but he gives me a lot of advice and helps me a lot in this process", revealed Paulo Bernardo.
