At the age of 19, Tomás Araújo had the privilege of wearing the Sacred Mantle playing for the first team. In his debut, the center-back was a starter in Benfica's 3-0 win over SC Covilhã at Estádio da Luz, on matchday 3 of group A of League Cup.

"I felt good. In the first minutes there was that nervousness which is normal, everyone feels that, but as the game went on, I felt better and more confident.", analyzed the young defender in statements to Sport TV.

On Wednesday night, December 15, Tomás Araújo started out as an interpreter in the 3x4x3 system and ended up in the 4x4x2 tactic. "I am comfortable in both systems", commented the player, who played 90 minutes and was satisfied with the team''s performance: "We played a good game. Our big goal was to qualify and we did it."
