João Mário highlighted "the good work that the SL Benfica team" did in the first leg of the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League, a match that the eagles won by 0-2 at Spartak Moscow's home ground.

"The team played very well, had a lot of quality at many moments, created several chances, and could have scored more goals", said the Portuguese international, speaking to Sport TV.

In João Mário's opinion, "the lead is important" because, in case of a draw, the away goals are not worth twice as much, but he points out that "the most important thing is still missing at home", that is, the second leg of the tie.

"I felt very good. Benfica has top quality players. Weigl [with whom he played in midfield] is an excellent player and everyone helped me a lot. I am very pleased to be here", admitted the midfielder, who provided an assist in his official debut with an eagle on his chest.
