Benfica's canoeist Teresa Portela qualified directly for the semi-finals of the K1 200-meter event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, after finishing second in her heat with 42.500 seconds, 362 thousandths behind China's Mengdie Yin.

The semi-finals at Sea Forest Waterways are scheduled for early Tuesday morning at 9:30 am local time, 1:30 am in Mainland Portugal. In case of advancing to the final, Teresa Portela will compete again at 3:37 am Portuguese time. It should be noted that the Benfica canoeist will also participate in K1 500 meters.
