The coach of SL Benfica's professional football team turn 44 today.
12 May 2020, 11h07
Bruno Lage
Bruno Lage's journey has the Benfica's head coach began on January 6, 2019. The eagles hosted Rio Ave and won by 4-2. A cycle began which, goal after goal and triumph after triumph, would lead the Glorioso to the Reconquest in 2018/19. The National title was celebrated on May 18, 2019, and the team finished the season with 103 goals scored.
With Bruno Lage at the helm, Benfica carried out the best second half of the season ever in the Portuguese League: 16 wins and 1 draw. And one of those triumphs, at home against Nacional, was the biggest rout of the last 50 years: 10-0!
Benfica ended 2018/19 with its 37th League Title and began the 2019/20 season with a new success after beating Sporting by 5-0 in the Super Cup.
In the summer, in the most important stage of the preseason, Bruno Lage guided the eagles to the first triumph of a Portuguese team in an edition of the International Champions Cup.
Fastest coach ever to make it to 30 league wins (in 32 matches), Bruno Lage, at the helm of Benfica's professional football team, has achieved another historical milestone that is hard to match, after winning all the league matches played away from home in the calendar year of 2019.
