The Portuguese motorcycle rider Paulo Gonçalves passed away today, at the age of 40, after an accident in the seventh round of the Dakar Rally (this year taking place in Saudi Arabia).

Paulo Gonçalves took part in the mythic competition on a regular basis – this was is 13th presence – having reached the top 10 four times, one a which was a second-place finish.

He was one of the most prestigious Portuguese drivers ever, having become the world Rally Cross champion in 2015.
