Benfica remains in the top spot of the Liga NOS after a triumph, by 1-2, against Santa Clara, in a game from round 11 of the competition. In São Miguel, the eagles were trailing, but Vinícius and Pizzi completed the comeback.

“We knew that Santa Clara would make life very difficult for us. They have good players and it's hard to play on this pitch. The first half did not go according to plan, but we entered the second half on the front foot, a big reaction and we ended up winning a very difficult game. Victory is entirely fair because we worked for that”, started by saying the Portuguese midfielder.

“I don' think about that! The most important thing is always to help the team get all three points and that was what happened. I was fortunate enough to assist Vinícius and then scoring the winner. I want to dedicate this goal to Cristian, Wilmer and Keven, who are three boys who supported us from the first moment”, finished Pizzi.

Benfica-Tirsense: extended match highlights (4-0)

In front of almost 50,000 spectators at the Estádio da Luz, Benfica confirmed their qualification for the 2024/2025 Portuguese Cup final on Wednesday night, April 23, by beating Tirsense 4-0 in the second leg of the semi-final (goals from António Silva, Bajrami, Belotti and Barreiro). In the first game, the Eagles had won 0-5. Thus, with a 9-0 aggregate in the semi-final, the Glorioso reached the decisive match of the Portuguese Cup for the 39th time. On their way to Jamor, the Reds overcame Pevidém (0-2), Estrela da Amadora (7-0), Farense (1-3), SC Braga (1-0) and, finally, Tirsense in a two-legged tie.

A moving tribute to Humberto Coelho

Having celebrated his 75th birthday on Sunday, April 20, Humberto Coelho received a heartfelt and well-deserved tribute on Wednesday, April 23, at the Estádio da Luz, during half-time of the Benfica-Tirsense (4-0) second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals. Captain for many years, he wore the Manto Sagrado for “14 fantastic seasons” and, on the pitch, he gave a special thanks to the fans. "This is more than soul, it's an extraordinary mystique! Only at Benfica can you feel this recognition and this glory and memory of having played for the best club in the world," said the former central defender.
