Benfica has the best point and goal averages per game in the second half of European football's top seven leagues.
13 May 2019, 18h29
The flight of the eagle in the 2nd half of the league has been imperial, in 16 matches, the balance is highly positive: fifteen wins and just one draw resulted in 46 points amassed.
The 46 points that Benfica from Bruno Lage won, up to now, are the best average of Europe’s top seven leagues (2,9).
TEAM | POINTS WON | AVERAGE |
---|---|---|
Benfica | 46 (16 matches) | 2,9 |
Paris Saint-Germain | 47 (17 matches) | 2,8 |
Bayern Munich | 39 (16 matches) | 2,4 |
Zenit | 31 (13 matches) | 2,4 |
Manchester City | 44 (19 matches) | 2,3 |
Barcelona | 40 (18 matches) | 2,2 |
Juventus | 36 (17 matches) | 2,1 |
In the 2nd half of the Championship, the Reds have already scored 62 times in 16 matches. An average of 3,9 goals per match is the reflex of a team that knows how to trounce and leave the competition of Europe’s top seven leagues behind.
TEAM | GOALS SCORED | AVERAGE |
---|---|---|
Benfica | 62 (16 matches) | 3,9 |
Paris Saint-Germain | 50 (17 matches) | 2,9 |
Bayern Munich | 47 (16 matches) | 2,9 |
Barcelona | 51 (18 matches) | 2,8 |
Manchester City | 51 (19 matches) | 2,7 |
Juventus | 30 (17 matches) | 1,8 |
Zenit | 22 (13 matches) | 1,7 |
The 2nd half of quality is also evidenced by victories in the ground where it is theoretically difficult to win. Looking at the league table, we see that Benfica won away against the Championship’s top nine clubs: FC Porto, Sporting, Braga, Moreirense, V. Guimarães, Rio Ave, Santa Clara, and Boavista.
Since the 1990/91 season, 28 years ago, that the Reds did not win away against FC Porto, Sporting e Braga in the same season. From 18 points at stake in these six matches (mini-league) in 2018/19, Benfica has amassed 16 (five win and one draw).
The Reconquest is closer, but there are still 90 minutes left to play, where the 12th player will be even more important than ever. Benfica welcomes Santa Clara to Estádio da Luz, in a match from the last round of the Liga NOS.
