Cristian Lema. That is the name of the latest Benfica's signing for the 2017/18 season. The Argentinian center-back came from Belgrano and has signed a 5-year deal.

“First I want a good adaptation. I want to fell adapted to the club, to the group, in order to play on my top level. I can’t wait, it is a very important step in my career. I have made a good season, in a hard championship, and I was expecting and opportunity like this. When it came, I made my decision along with my family that was very happy”, said the 27-year-old defender (24.03.1990), to BTV.

Arrived at Lisboa on Thursday morning, after a “calm” flight, Lema has already completed the physical tests and the medical exams. With the first step accomplished and with the contract signed, the player feels “anxious” to start working.

"I’m pleased to have this opportunity. I have much to give and I wish I can show it along with my teammates", he declared.

“It was a difficult decision concerning the familiar side, but in terms of the sporting side with was the first option, no doubt. It is an enormous club, it’s a big step in my career, I’m very happy and looking forward to help the club”, he assured.

With the Argentinians of Belgrano, Lema scored eight times and assisted twice in 25 matches during 2017/18 season.

For him, "the goals of the group are always above the individual ones". "I’m in a goo moment of my life and I want to enjoy what I’m living, with seriousness and responsibility", highlighted Lema.

After signing the contract, it was time for the former Belgrano to get to know the Museum Benfica - Cosme Damião and Estádio da LuzThe player is already aware of the supporters’ demand.

"It's good the supporters to be demanding and we have to respond on the pitch”, he concluded.
