Sílvia Rebelo joins Benfica

She has been signed! Sílvia Rebelo joins the women's football team of Benfica, a project that will make its debut in 2018/19. The 29-year-old centre-back does not hide the honor of being able to wear the Sacred Mantle.

"It is a sense of pride. I am benfiquista, it is a dream come true. The project of Sport Lisboa e Benfica is very large", confessed the player in statements to BTV.

She began playing football at school, she represented a team from her hometown for 14 years and in 2009 she moved to Fundação Laura Santos where she remained until 2016, when she was signed by SC Braga.

"I started playing football at school with the boys, like most of us. I was born in Gouveia, I played 14 years in a local team, then I had the privilege to meet the gaffer João Marques and there is no doubt that he is largely responsible for my leap. I had the opportunity to work with him at Braga, he is an excellent professional", highlighted Sílvia Rebelo.

Now that she joins Benfica, Sílvia Rebelo does not hide that she is fulfilling "a dream": "It was a surprise, I was not expecting this. I dreamed with this, but it is one of those dreams we know the will hardly come true, but it did. I want to win titles, I have been in the football world for a long time and unfortunately I still have not won any trophy and there is no doubt that this is the project that guarantees that in the future I will win the title I wish so much", she stressed.

She describes herself as a "hard worker, who never gives up and who always leaves her soul on the pitch", Sílvia Rebelo speaks about individual and collective titles: "In the individual level, I want to learn with my teammates and develop every day, in the collective level, to win titles", she said.

For the National Team she has already played 79 matches and in 2016 she was indicated by the "Federação Portuguesa de Futebol" for the Female Athlete of the Year Award of the "Confederação do Desporto de Portugal".

The most recent signing left a message to the supporters: “I am a Benfica fan and I think we are the best supporters in the world. I am sure you will not falter us, so we expect the support from all of you because I assure that we will repay with many joys”, she said.
