Saturday, at 6:15 pm, SL Benfica and Vitória de Guimarães will enter the pitch of Estádio da Luz to play the round 28 of the Liga NOS. The last clash at the Cathedral between the two teams brings good memories…
29 March 2018, 15h35
It was on May 13, 2017, the match of the fourth league title in a row! Saturday, a fantastic late afternoon, with 64 591 fans in the stands of Luz!
Synergy and total communion between supporters and team, from the first to the last minute, with the stands pushing the artists on the field and vice versa ... Exciting this Red Wave that, together with the squad, concluded “the Tetra construction work” in this game ... a work that had started many months before.
Ahead of gameweek 33, Benfica had then its first opportunity to make History, winning the unprecedented Fourth consecutive league title.
Minute 11 and Cervi opened the scoring with bending shot … the way was paved! And we only had to wait five minutes for the second goal. Ederson made a long pass towards Raúl and the Mexican scored the 2-0.
Still before the break, Pizzi (37’) extended the lead with a stunner and Jonas scored his first goal in the match with a perfect lob (44’). In the second half, there was another goal from Jonas, sealing a 5-0 win (67’), this time through a penalty.
Jorge Sousa gave the final whistle and the emotion took over the Benfiquistas! History was written, with Sport Lisboa e Benfica lifting its 36th National League Title, the desired and unprecedented Fourth consecutive league title, increasing its status as the most titled Club in Portugal.
Returning to the present, there are seven final left to make a new dream come true… The Fifth consecutive league title is now the big goal and the entire Benfiquista Nation is united around the big objective.
Saturday, the Estádio da Luz will be once again full for another match between SL Benfica and Vitória de Guimarães! May the Red Wave be once again crucial in the support to the team.
