Festejos da dobradinha

With the triumph, on May 28th 2017, in Jamor, against Vitória de Guimarães (2-1), the Sport Lisboa e Benfica has now a new record: 11 seasons winning, simultaneously, the National Championship and the Portuguese Cup.

The first time was in 1942/43. Now, after 74 years, the Club has reached its 11th "dobradinha", increasing its hegemony in the Portuguese Football. FC Porto has only seven and Sporting CP six.

The 80's was the most effective decade in terms of "dobradinhas", with three: (1980/81, 1982/83 and 1986/87). In the current decade, the eagles can still do the same or even overcome this record, after the "dobradinhas" won in 2013/14 and 2016/17. The remaining ones were achieved in: 1954/55, 1956/57, 1963/64, 1968/69 and 1971/72.

The moment is very positive and in the last four seasons we have won 11 titles, in a total of 15 official trophies (four Championships, three League Cups, two Portuguese Cups and two Super cups). Rui Vitória has become the 21st coach to win the Championship and the Portuguese Cup in the same season. He is also the 8th Portuguese man to win it and the 9th in the Club. Otto Glória is the only one in the Club who has won three "dobradinhas" (1954/55, 1956/57 and 1968/69).

Internationally, only a team from the best European leagues (Spain, England, Germany, Italy and France) has the same record as Benfica, and it is Bayern Munich. In Spain, Barcelona has seven “dobradinhas”, in Italy, Juventus is the leader with five and in France
