"We try to encompass every bit of our history"

On the day of SL Benfica's 121st anniversary, Friday, February 28, the Estádio da Luz and the Benfica Museum – Cosme Damião opened their doors once again for night visits. For the 3rd month running, Stadium & Museum By Night sold out with 750 people attending. Participants were surprised by the Cathedral's nocturnal illuminations and were presented with the Club's birthday cake. At the Museum, they were able to walk through the corridors of Benfica's glorious history, and it is worth noting that the writer André Pereira was present and offered some visitors portraits written in the form of poems. Another special Benfica evening, in communion between the Club's fans!

José Augusto opened the scoring, António Simões made it solid with the fourth goal and Pérides helped fill the pitch in SL Benfica's biggest ever win against Real Madrid, 5-1 - which was also the meringues' first ever defeat in the European Cup. On February 24, 1965, in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the competition that would evolve into the Champions League, the Estádio da Luz hosted an iconic European night for the Glorioso. The three legends, 60 years later, listened to Emissora Nacional's commentary of the game and relived the magical moments in their own detail. 

A name engraved in golden letters in the history of Sport Lisboa e Benfica, Humberto Coelho celebrated his 75th birthday, on Sunday, April 20. Captain for many years, he wore the Manto Sagrado 14 seasons and was - and is - a true emblem of the Benfica mystique, both on and off the pitch. In a special moment, he experienced a magical day full of surprises at the Estádio da Luz...

Two-time European champion, synonymous with the Sport Lisboa e Benfica mystique, José Augusto was honored on Sunday, April 13, the day of his 88th birthday. During half-time of the Benfica-Arouca match, on matchday 29 of the Liga Betclic, he was applauded by the Benfiquistas and thanked for the gesture from the Presidential Tribune. There, in the box, in the presence of President Rui Costa, among José Augusto's friends and family, Happy Birthday was sung to one of the undeniable names in the history of the Glorioso.

The President of Sport Lisboa e Benfica celebrates his 53rd anniversary this Saturday, March 29. On this same day, in 1972, Rui Costa was born, the child who became a man, with his passion for Benfica always present, in a personal and professional career that has made him a key figure in the Club. A lifetime of dedication to the Glorioso, from a young academy player to a world-renowned footballer, and today he's in charge of Benfica's plans. Happy birthday, Maestro!

In the year that Eusébio da Silva Ferreira would have celebrated his 83rd birthday, a young man with the same name carries the King's name on his back. Born in 2014 and named after the greatest figure in Benfica's history, who had left six months earlier, Eusébio da Silva Vicente, who was also brought into the world in Mozambique, is inspired by the Black Panther's legacy to make his way through Benfica's youth system.
