A product of IL Hodd's youth academy, Aursnes, at just 16, was at the club's highest point when, in 2012, in the lower division, they lifted the Norwegian Cup.
The midfielder remained at IL Hodd until January 2016, when he joined Molde, a club where he gained prominence and for which he won the Norwegian championship in 2019.
Aursnes' competitive strength attracted the interest of Feyenoord, who, in August 2021, signed him. At the club from Rotterdam he made 49 appearances, scored one goal and was a very important part of the team that played in the Conference League final, in 2021/22, against Roma.
