National Championship 1983/84

Two-time champions
Sven-Göran Eriksson’s team renewed the title three points ahead of runner-up, FC Porto. Eight Benfica players were part of the Portuguese National Team that would get the 3rd place in the 1984 Euro held in France. The “Reds” had the strongest attack and gave no truce to their main rival, FC Porto finishing the competition with two more triumphs. For the second consecutive time, the title was celebrated in Portimão, this time in the last match, with a 2-0 victory over Portimonense. Along with Fernando Gomes (FC Porto), Nené was the best scorer of the competition with 21 goals.
