Kickboxing was introduced at Benfica in 2008. The sport quickly achieved enormous prestige, with Bruno Carvalho becoming world champion. The "reds" have become the driving force behind the sport in Portugal, both by organizing national and international events and by the excellent performance of Benfica players in these competitions.
Several athletes won the European and World Championships, such as Bruno Torres, Laranjinha (Milder de Oliveira), David Machado, and Bogas (José Oliveira). There was also a 1st place in the women's category, with Inês Oliveira winning the European Amateur K1 Championship in her debut in 2009, in the - 58 Kg category.
