National Championship 2015/16

Three-time champions for the sixth time
It had been almost four decades since the last time Benfica had won the National Championship for three consecutive seasons. The dispute for Benfica’s 35th trophy was a titanic fight between the old rivals from the Portuguese capital city. And the victory was only achieved in the final matchday. In the crowded Estádio da Luz the “red” team led by managed Rui Vitória could only rely in a good performance and hope for a victory against Nacional. The match was a goal-festival with Nacional being trashed. Benfica won the competition with the highest score ever (88 points). Scoring 32 goals in 34 matches, Jonas made history and won the Silver Ball.
