National Championship 1982/83

Sven-Göran Eriksson
This was a sensational season, with the double conquest of the Championship and the Cup (won at Antas), as well as a presence in the UEFA Cup final. It was a unique feat achieved by the team led by the Swedish manager Sven-Göran Eriksson. Losing only one match out of 30, the “red” team finished the competition four points ahead of FC Porto. In a time victories were only worth two points, the matches played at home were crucial since Benfica won two more than the northern team. The title celebrations took place in Algarve, after a 1-0 win over Portimonense two matches to the end of the competition.
