National Championship 1980/81

Great return, with... a "double"!
After three seasons and no title, something that didn't occur since the first half of the ‘50s, Benfica returned to spotlight under the command of the Hungarian manager Lajos Baroti. Seven matches from the end, Benfica won at Luz, against FC Porto by 1-0 and took an important step towards the conquest of the title. This objective was achieved when there was only one more match to play, after a 5-1 win at home over V. Setúbal. Nené, with 20 goals, was the best scorer of the competition. In the Cup's final, played in June, at Jamor, he would also sign a hat-trick in the 3-1 win against FC Porto. It was the Club’s seventh "double".
