National Championship 1975/76

A rough chess
It was the first title under the lead of the Portuguese manager Mário Wilson. A title fiercely played mostly against the surprising team of Boavista, who finished two points away from Benfica. Belenenses, FC Porto and Sporting got the 3rd, 4th and 5th positions, 10, 11 and 12 points away, respectively. The 4-1 win away over the "chequereds", opening the 2nd round of the National, was decisive to Benfica’s final triumph. Jordão (30) and Nené (29) were the leading characters of a demolishing attack counting 94 goals. Jordão also conquered the title of best scorer of the competition.
