National Championshipl 1959/60

A legendary path
After dramatically losing the previous Championship to FC Porto, by goal average criteria, Benfica reached the tenth title, ending the competition two points ahead of Sporting. The derby, played at Luz in the 24th matchday when there was only two more matches to play, against the archrival was crucial. The “Reds” won 4-3, which allowed the team to win the title even after losing against Belenenses, in the last match at home. Hungarian manager Béla Guttmann’s debut season began with a legendary path that would be imprinted in the Club's history.
