National Championship 1954/55

"Lion" friend
In the year Einstein died, Benfica was able to relativise the golden era of four-time champion Sporting conquering the title with the help of Sporting itself. In the last match, the "lions" tied (1-1) with Belenenses, when there were only four minutes to play hence taking down Belenenses’s hopes to win the title. Defeating Atlético 3-0 at home, Benfica got the same points as Belenenses and reached the title for the matches’ results played between both teams were favourable to the “Reds”. The victory was also the confirmation of a modern football, introduced by Brazilian manager Otto Glória. In June Benfica won the Cup achieving another "double".
