A dream season
The seventh title arrived after four seasons. In those four years, Benfica had been close to the title twice but failed. This season the “Reds” won the Championship six points ahead of the runner-up, Sporting. With 14 teams competing, Benfica had a notable campaign and assured the triumph when there were still two games to play, in a match against V. Setúbal by a clear 5-0. It was a dream season and Julinho was for the second time, the best scorer with 28 goals. In addition, in June, the team conquered the Latin Cup, the cherry on top of the cake.
