National Championship 1944/45

Goals and more goals
In a year marked by the end of World War II, Benfica summed the sixth title in 11 seasons. An excellent performance in the matches away, counting just one defeat, ended up being crucial. The victories by 2-0 and 3-1 in the fields of Sporting and Belenenses, respectively, were imperative since both teams were three points below Benfica in the general classification. Also important was the triumph in V. Setúbal’s venue by 8-3, a match the “red” team was losing 3-1 by the half-time. At home Benfica won 11-3 against Salgueiros, 7-2 against FC Porto and, in the last match, 5-0 against V. Guimarães, celebrating the title then.
