Historic triumph in "double" year
The present edition of the competition counted 10 clubs instead of 12. Benfica renewed the title ending the Championship with 30 points, one point ahead of Sporting, who got the 2nd place, and two ahead of Belenenses, in 3rd. The astounding triumph by 12-2 on the 5th matchday at Campo Grande over FC Porto, – who got the 7th place on the general classification – deserves a special mention. In that match, Julinho scored four goals and counting a total of 24 goals, became the best scorer of the competition that year. Winning the Portuguese Cup in that same season the Club achieved their first “double”.
