National Championship 1936/37

Grand finale
After losing 1-0 against Belenenses, on the adversary's field when there was only one match to play in the competition, Benfica had to make sure not to facilitate FC Porto, the 4th classified team, in the last match at home. There was only one point separating Benfica from the runner-up: the team from Belém (Belenenses). In a match of great inspiration, the team led by Hungarian Lipo Herczka hammered FC Porto by 6-0 and conquered the second title in a row for the first time in the history of the National Championship. A particular reference must be made to the impressing goal-average 57-13 in 14 matches.
