Dahl with President Rui Costa
Made official on Monday night, February 3, as Sport Lisboa e Benfica's new addition for the defense, Dahl expressed his amazement at the size of the Glorioso and his ambition to “win every game” with an eagle on his chest, in an exclusive interview with the club's official television channel.
"I'm very happy to be here, at this club, with a fantastic history and this level of football. It's really fantastic to be here," said Dahl to BTV.
THE CAREER
Samuel Dahl began his sporting career with Vasteras SK, the team from his hometown (Vasteras), moving to AIK in 2020 - when he was playing for the U17 team.
The defender then spent two seasons at Solna, playing for AIK's U17 and U19 teams, before moving to Orebro SK in 2022.
It was with this club that Dahl made his professional debut - as a starter, completing 90 minutes - on March 7, 2022, a few days after his 19th birthday (he was born on March 4, 2003), in a Swedish Cup match against his former team, AIK.
Throughout the 2022 season, Dahl earned his place and made 27 appearances (25 starts) in the Swedish Second Division. In 2023, the full-back continued to make a name for himself at Orebro SK, making 18 appearances until July (3 in the Cup and 15 in the second tier of the league, always as a starter), when Djurgardens recruited him.
Just five days after his last appearance for Orebro SK (on July 22), he made his debut for Djurgardens (on July 27), coming off the bench in a Conference League qualifier against Luzern. Between matches in the European competition and the Allsvenskan (Swedish First Division), he took to the field on 15 occasions during the 2023 season, always as a starter, except in his first match.
Having also been a member of the Swedish youth team, Dahl's performances led him to make his debut (with 90 minutes played) for Sweden's senior national team on January 12, 2024, in a friendly against Estonia.
Following his call-up to the national team, the defender showed great class in the 15 matches he played (he was part of the starting eleven in all of them) in the Allsvenskan 2024, receiving the official distinction of Young Player of the Year in the competition. The full-back also reached the final of the Swedish Cup, playing in 6 matches (only once as a substitute), and took part in a Conference League 2024/25 qualifier, his last for Djurgardens.
In July 2024, Samuel Dahl set off on his first experience abroad, signing for AS Roma. This season, the youngster has made 3 appearances from the bench for Roma's first team - 2 in Serie A and 1 in the Italian Cup. He also represented the Giallorossi U20 team on one occasion.
