Five players from Benfica's women's football team have been called up to represent the national team in the two matches against Azerbaijan, in Round 1 of the qualifying play-off for the final phase of the 2025 European Championship. The squad was revealed on Monday morning, October 14.

Rute Costa, Carole Costa, Catarina Amado, Andreia Faria and Andreia Norton are the players called up for the double-header against the Azeri national team. 

The first leg of the play-off will be played at 1 pm on October 25 (Friday) in Bacu, while the second leg will take place at 7:45 pm on October 29 (Tuesday) at the Estádio do FC Vizela.

After overcoming Azerbaijan, Portugal will still have to win a final two-legged play-off (Round 2) - to be played between November 27 and December 3, against the winner of the play-off between Belarus and Czechia - to make it to the final phase of the 2025 European Championship.

Benfica-Tirsense: extended match highlights (4-0)

In front of almost 50,000 spectators at the Estádio da Luz, Benfica confirmed their qualification for the 2024/2025 Portuguese Cup final on Wednesday night, April 23, by beating Tirsense 4-0 in the second leg of the semi-final (goals from António Silva, Bajrami, Belotti and Barreiro). In the first game, the Eagles had won 0-5. Thus, with a 9-0 aggregate in the semi-final, the Glorioso reached the decisive match of the Portuguese Cup for the 39th time. On their way to Jamor, the Reds overcame Pevidém (0-2), Estrela da Amadora (7-0), Farense (1-3), SC Braga (1-0) and, finally, Tirsense in a two-legged tie.

A moving tribute to Humberto Coelho

Having celebrated his 75th birthday on Sunday, April 20, Humberto Coelho received a heartfelt and well-deserved tribute on Wednesday, April 23, at the Estádio da Luz, during half-time of the Benfica-Tirsense (4-0) second leg of the Portuguese Cup semi-finals. Captain for many years, he wore the Manto Sagrado for “14 fantastic seasons” and, on the pitch, he gave a special thanks to the fans. "This is more than soul, it's an extraordinary mystique! Only at Benfica can you feel this recognition and this glory and memory of having played for the best club in the world," said the former central defender.
